PEARLAND — It is an exciting time of basketball this season for the Dawson Eagles basketball team as head coach Mark Barre has his team pushing up and down the floor at a record pace while blowing out the district foes.
For the past three games, the Eagles have soared over the 100-point mark with wins over Ball High (106-56), La Marque (103-74), and most recently Santa Fe (109-51). Dawson has outscored these three teams by an average of 106 to 60.
Dawson also beat Friendswood 94-48 and Fort Bend Ridge Point 96-79.
Considering that Ball High and La Marque played for the 4A Region III title last season with La Marque winning that game to advance to the 4A state finals is pretty impressive.
At the present time - neither of these three teams are in the playoff hunt in District 24-4A.
Dawson and Manvel are the only two teams that are undefeated in first round action and they will faced off on Tuesday, Jan. 17 (late). Manvel is ranked No. 9 in the state, but Dawson is considered the favorite to win the district crown.
When La Marque invaded the Eagles Nest last week, it didn't take long for Dawson to set the tone with a 9-0 game-opening run. The lead increased to 19-2 after the Cougars finally scored their first basket of the game. Dawson kept the offensive pressure on to take a lopsided 39-15 lead at the end of the first period.
The Cougars finally came alive in the second quarter outscoring the Eagles 22-17 leaving Dawson with a 56-37 halftime advantage.
But Dawson maintained their offensive intensity outscoring La Marque 47-38 in the second half to post the 103-74 final score.
All 14 Dawson players got in the scoring column with Jarried Littleton leading the way with 23 points followed by Dakarai Henderson with 20 and Chris Dishman adding 15.
Dawson 109 - Santa Fe 51
There was no question that this game was going to be a rout from the beginning as Dawson jumped on the Santa Fe Indians 34-9 in the opening period and the outscored the visitors 18-15 in the second quarter for a commanding 52-24 halftime lead.
The Eagles scored twice as many points as the visitors in the third quarter 31-15 to increase the lead to 83-39.
The fans began to get really excited knowing that the Eagles were within reach of another 100-point game for the third straight time.
As the clock began to wind down, Dawson finally hit the 100 mark with 1:34 left in the contest.
Dawson went on to post their highest scoring game in school history beating the Indians 109-51.
Five players scored in double-digits as Jarried Littleton led the way with 18 following by Dakarai Henderson (17), Brandon Allen (13), Jordan Lewis (11), and Chris Dishman (11). Eight other players also got in on the scoring action.
The Eagles will be on the road to face Clear Falls on Friday, Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m. and Friendswood on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m.
