PEARLAND — Dawson head coach Mark Barre knoww his kids work hard and have been taking each loss personally - sometimes in tears. The determination and hustle has been in every game, but the key ingredient has been finishing what they started.
After falling behind early - the Eagles made a mad dash to the finish line against Texas City, but the late flurry wasn't enough as the Stingarees hung on for a 46-43 win to hand Dawson their fourth straight district loss. The Eagles have lost the last two games by a total of six points.
Texas City took an early first quarter lead 14-10 and maintain their lead 22-19 after Dawson took the second period 9-8.
The Stings took the third period 14-9 for a 36-28 advantage entering the final eight minutes of action.
Dawson put their offense into another gear to outscore the Stings 15-10, but it wasn't enough to overcome the eight point lead.
Jordan Rose was Dawson's leading scorer with 14 points.
Dawson 50 - Santa Fe 38It was just a matter of time before the Dawson Eagles would post their first District 24-4A win of the season. After an 0-4 start, head coach Mark Barre saw his team take out the Santa Fe Indians 50-33 to improve to 1-4 in league play.
Craig Grisby fired in 12 points while Jonathon Lewis added 10 to set the pace for Dawson.
After dropping the first quarter to the Indians 13-11, the Eagles came roaring back to outscore Santa Fe 19-11 for a 30-24 halftime lead.
Dawson's defense went to work in the third quarter to limit the Indians to five points while the Eagles increased their lead with 15 points for a 45-29 advantage.
While the Indians outscored the Eagles 9-5 in the final eight minutes -- the game was well in hand for Dawson's first league win of the season to improve to 1-4 in district play. The loss leaves Santa Fe winless at 0-5.
Dawson played at Manvel on Tuesday (late) and then will host No. 3 area-ranked and district leading La Marque on Friday, January 22 at 7:30 p.m. to complete the first round of district play. The Eagles will travel to face Angleton on Tuesday, January 26 at 7:30 p.m. to begin the second round of district.
