PEARLAND — For the second straight week, the Class 4A Pearland Dawson Lady Eagles flexed their track muscles and ran away with the Pearland John Morriss III Invitational.
Two weeks ago, the Lady Eagles, in their second year of varsity competition, captured the Jim Keathon Relays in Deer Park team championship with 125 points.
The Lady Eagles were only one of two 4A teams competing against some of the topĀ 5A teams in the area. Deer Park finished second behind Dawson with 97 points followed by North Shore (73), Elkins (72), Clear Brook (62), Pearland (58), Dobie (42), Pasadena Memorial (30), Baytown Lee (24), Manvel (17), Baytown Sterling (11), and Dickinson (3).
Dawson's Jennifer Bush took the individual high-point award with 33 points as she won the high jump (4-10), the long jump (17-0 3/4), the triple jump (35-0), and was a member of the third-place 1600 meter relay team.
Other first place finishers included Jennifer Blair who won the pole vault (9-0) and Karina Turner who won the 100 high hurdles (15.44).
At the Pearland Invitational, Dawson head coach Jerry Killen saw his Lady Eagles pile up 140 points to out distance second place Fort Bend Elkins who finished with 93 points. Deer Park was third with 79 points followed by Pearland (58.5), Houston Westside (29), Friendswood (24), Clear Creek (23), Bellaire (18), Manvel (18), Houston Stratford (17), Dulles (16), Alief Taylor (13), Baytown Sterling (12), Dickinson (11), Westbrook (8), La Marque (4), and Willowridge (0.5). There were 18 teams who competed at the meet.
Once again, Jennifer Bush led the way for Dawson scoring 20 points. Bush finished first in the triple jump (36-7), second in the long jump (16-10 1/4), and fifth in the high jump (4-10).
The 800 meter relay team of Albrina Wilson, Brittany Williams-White, Natavia Williams, and Tierreny Moody picked up the first place gold medal with a winning time of 1:45.
Jennifer Blair won the pole vault (9-0) with Samantha Montgomery taking third place (8-6).
Kori Knoxon finished third in the high jump (4-10).
Samantha Walker won the discus with a throw of 110-3 and picked up a third place finish in the shot put with a heave of 32-7.
Porsha Thomas challenged Bush in the long jump to finish fourth with a leap of 16-7 1/2.
The 400 meter relay foursome of Tifani Herndon, Natavia Williams, Sidtrice Critchlow, and Albrina Wilson placed second with a time of 49.2).
Herndon placed second in the 100 meters (12.99) while Critchlow was third (13.15).
The 1600 meter relay team of Brook Wilson, Kayla Jamerson, Karina Turner, and Erica Taylor finished fourth in 4:08.
The 3200 meter relay squad of Taylor, Jamerson, Elise Lebiga, and Wilson finished fourth with a time of 10:22.
Wilson had a fourth place finish in the 400 meters (62.4).
Turner took fourth in the 300 intermediate hurdles (49.2).
Dawson will compete at the Dickinson Invitational this weekend.
