PEARLAND — The first round of District 24-4A competition is coming to an end and the Dawson Lady Eagles are struggling to keep their head above water for a place in the playoffs.
At the present time - the Lady Eagles are behind five other teams in the playoff standings. Angleton is in first place with a 6-0 mark followed by Texas City (4-2) and Santa Fe (4-2) who share second place. Manvel (3-3) and Friendswood (3-3) are next with Dawson at 2-4. Brazosport and La Marque are winless and out of contention for the playoffs, but can be a spoiler if someone doesn't take care of business.
Dawson kept Brazosport winless in district with a 4-0 win over the Lady Exporters.
Brook Graham got the win with 11 strikeouts.
Texas City 2 - Dawson 0
Texas City pitcher Crystal Alaniz had another dominant performance on the mound and at the plate. The Texas State signee allowed Dawson just four hits with a 13 strikeout performance . She also went 2-for-3 at the plate scoring two runs.
Emily Abbott drove in Alaniz in the first inning. Lyndsey Harvey had an RBI-single in the third. Lindsey Gomez and Nicole Jaeger each added two hits for Texas City (15-9-1, 4-2).
