Dawson dominates Summer Creek 34-14


PEARLAND — It didn't take long for Dawson to set the tone for their game against Summer Creek as the Eagles scored on their first possession of the game when quarterback Patrick Kramer launched a long missile into the arms of a streaking Mason Pierce who had gotten behind the Bulldog secondary resulting in a 70-yard scoring bomb with 10:28 left in the first quarter. Carter Brown booted the PAT and Dawson was ahead 7-0 at Turner Stadium in Humble.

Dawson's defense came up with the big play on Summer Creek's first possession as the Bulldogs fumbled at the Dawson 28 with Mason Pierce coming up with the recovery.

The Eagles began their drive at their own 43 and they converted the turnover into a score. The workhorse of the drive was Ja'Den Stewart who had five straight carries to the Summer Creek 18.

Mason Pierce took a hand off to the Bulldog 1-yard line, but fumbled the ball into the end zone, but an alert Khalil Jones fell on the ball for a Dawson touchdown. The PAT missed the mark wide left and the Eagles had a 13-0 advantage with 6:22 left in the opening period.

After Dawson forced a three-and-out by Summer Creek, the Eagles went back to work from their on 14.

Kramer dropped back and found a streaking Jones for a 68-yard completion to the Bulldog 12. However, two plays later, Dawson would fumble at the 1-yard line with the Bulldogs recovering the ball.

Dawson would get another turnover deep in Bulldog territory after Devon Leon recovered a fumble at the Summer Creek 28.

It would take only six plays for Caleb Eaton to bull his way across the goal line with 9:04 left in the second period. The PAT would get blocked leaving the Eagles with a 19-0 lead that would stand until halftime.

The weather interrupted play for about an hour-and-a-half with lightening before play resumed.

Summer Creek finally scored with 6:57 left in the third quarter to cut the lead to 19-6 after the PAT missed the mark.

Dawson scored two more times when Eaton crossed the pay station on a 2-yard run at the 2:41 mark of the third quarter making the score 26-6 and then Jones hauled in a 59-yard bomb from Kramer at the 10:34 mark of the fourth frame. Eaton scored the 2-point conversion for a 34-6 advantage.

Summer Creek closed out the scoring with an 11-yard run and a 2-point conversion to post the 34-14 final score.

Dawson outgained Summer Creek 495 total yards to 275.

Kramer was 11-of-16 passing for 279 yards and two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Eaton had 15 carries for 83 yards and two scores while Stewart picked up 68 yards on 11 totes and one TD.

Pierce had five catches for 121 yards and one score while Jones snagged five passes for 153 yards and one score.
