ROSENBURG — The Friendswood girls softball team was 2-3 last week and ended with a fourth place finish at the Lamar Consolidated softball tournament.
The Lady Mustangs opened with an 8-2 win over Lamar Consolidated as Kelly Smith got the win in five innings of work in the pitching circle. Smith struck out 12 and gave up two unearned runs.
The offense had several outstanding hitters including Ambers Mills (a double and run scored), Carrie Flores (two runs scored), Lindsey Davis (3-run homer and scored a run), Rylie Kohls (two home runs and four RBIs). Lauren Massar, Kelsey Eubanks, and Kelsi Acosta also had one hit each.
Dulles 2 - Friendswood 1
Friendswood lost a close game 2-1 to Fort Bend Dulles as Lauren Masser, who allowed only five hits and two earned runs, took the loss. Mills, Davis, Massar, and Sabrina Yates all had one hit.
Friendswood 3 - Sealy 0
The Lady 'Stangs bounced back to shut out Sealy 3-0 as Smith picked up the win allowing only one hit while fanning nine.
Amber Mills had two hits and scored a run to lead the offense. Carrie Flores scored a run while Lindsey Davis added a hit and scored a run.
Needville 2 - Friendswood 0
Friendswood faced defending 3A state champion Needville and dropped a heartbreaker 2-0.
Kelly Smith gave up only four hits and struck out nine while both runs were unearned.
Amber Mills picked up three hits and Lindsey Davis had one hit, but the Lady Mustangs were unable to squeeze across any runs.
Seven Lakes 5 - Friendswood 3
Friendswood faced Seven Lakes in a game for third place, but fell 5-3.
Lauren Masser took the loss pitching after giving up five runs with three earned.
Friendswood's defense committed three erors that allowed Seven Lakes to cross home plate.
Amber Mills had two hits and scored a run while Lindsey Davis added a hit and a run scored with two RBIs. Rylie Kohls had two hits including a double and an RBI. Lauren Masser had a hit and Jackie Dubcak had a hit and scored a run.
Mills went 9-for-14 for the tournament while scoring six runs.
Friendswood is now 11-6-1 overall for the season and will start District 24-4A action against Texas City.
