Friendswood 7 - Texas City 2
The second round of district began with Friendswood getting a 7-2 win over Texas City. Both teams shared third place entering the league contest so a win was very important for both teams.
Texas City got on the scoreboard first with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. But Friendswood came back in the top of the fifth as Carrie Flores smashed a two-run double scoring Missy Jesionowski and Amber Mills who had reached base on back-to-back singles for a 2-1 lead.
The Lady Stingarees tied up the game in their half of the fifth.
After neither team scored in the sixth, Friendswood (16-9-1) stepped up to the plate in the top of the seventh inning and greeted a relief pitcher with five runs.
With two outs and runners on first and third, Lauren Massar banged a two-run double down the third base line. Lindsey Davis followed with an infield single. A throwing error allowed Massar and Davis to both score on a wild play. Rylie Kohls smacked a triple to right field and scored on a pass ball giving Friendswood a 7-2 lead.
Kelly Smith close out the Lady Stingarees in the bottom of the seventh to improve her pitching record to 14-5-1 and 5-3 in district.
Friendswood will host Santa Fe on Friday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m.
