FRIENDSWOOD — Friendswood's varsity "A" golf team opened up the first round of District 24-4A with a team score of 352 to take the first day lead. The Mustangs shot a second round team score of 358 for a 710 total giving the the district title with a two-day total of 710 to finish ahead of second-place Angleton who shot a two-day total 737.
The Friendswood "B" team and Santa Fe finished in a tie for third place with a score of 748. The Mustangs won the tie breaker to for third pushing Santa Fe to fourth place in the team standings.
Friendswood's Corey Hayford took individual medalist honors with a two-day total of 161.
Bobby Ledesma led the tournament after the first day with an opening round of 78 followed by Michael Paukner (81) of Angleton, Nathan Mabry (82) and Corey Hayford (83) both from Friendswood.
However, Hayford came back on the second day to shoot 78 combined with his first round 83 to give him 161 to capture medalist honors by five strokes. Ledesma and Paukner finished in a two-way tie for second place at 166. Ledsema defeated Paukner in a one-hole playoff to secure second place with Paukner taking third.
Friendswood's "A" consisted of Brady Purdom, David Dirks, Spencer Langhart, Sam Brackett, and Corey Hayford.
