Hutchison, Newkirk, Hall headline district soccer awards

PEARLAND — Friendswood junior Makenzie Newkirk was named District 42-4A "Most Valuable Player" while Dawson head coach Jamie Hutchison was honored as "Coach of the Year" by the league coaches for the 2010 season.
Friendswood senior Annalisa Hall was named to the All-District first-team while being named as the "Player of the Year" by the Galveston County Daily News.
Other players honored by the district coaches included junior Sierra Birx (Manvel) who was named "Offensive MVP." Santa Fe junior Amber Moore was named "Defensive MVP." Texas City junior Tori Massey was named "Goalkeeper of the Year" and Dawson freshman Amber Plite was named "Newcomer of the Year."
Newkirk was instrumental in the continued success of the Lady Mustangs this season as she had seven goals and 29 assists for 43 points. The three-time All-District first-team member was the 2010 captain and is an All-County, All-Region and All-State performer.
Hall has been one of the most talented and recognized players in the state over the past four years. Hall helped Friendswood reach three state title games and four region finals while winning all four district titles. Though she never played more than 15 games, Hall still scored in double figures every year.
Hall never played a full soccer season for the Lady Stangs because she is also an outstanding basketball player. This year was no exception. Hall returned in March, more than two months into the soccer season, and scored 26 goals in 11 games. She added eight assists for 60 points to lead the team in scoring for the year.
Hall will attend the University of Oklahoma next year on a soccer scholarship.
Area players named to the first-team included: junior Vanessa Alejandro (Dawson), senior Lauren Feuz (Manvel), junior Rebecca Jordan (Dawson), freshman Kaitlin Kaltenbaugh (Friendswood), senior Tori Moore (Manvel), sophomore Hannah Perry (Friendswood), senior Linsey Reed (Manvel), and sophomore Bridget Richie (Friendswood).
Players named to the All-District second-team included: sophomore Alaniz Corena (Manvel), sophomore Kelley Dougherty (Dawson), senior Jessica Goldgar (Manvel), junior Tess Horbach (Friendswood), sophomore Landry Lowe (Friendswood), sophomore Sarah Martin (Friendswood), junior Allyson Martinez (Manvel), senior Miriam Mooney (Friendswood), and senior Cassandra Pham (Dawson).
