FRIENDSWOOD — The Friendswood Area Swim Team (FAST) hasn't lost a duel meet in the past six years, but that mark almost came to an end against Pine Brook Wood Orcas.
FAST was able to pull out a 411-384 win to keep the unbeaten streak intact.
"We got a scare from PineBrookwood which always swims us tough” said FAST President Steve Rockey. “We had a lot of swimmers missing, but this gave other swimmers a chance to move up and they did a great job for us. It’s a testament to the depth of our team.”
FAST head coach Sophie Wostal commented, “I am so proud of all of our swimmers this season. Because of their amazing talent, dedication, and hard work, I know I can count on our team to pull through against challenging competition like Pine Brook Wood. It always feels good to come home with great memories and a win!”
FAST got some great efforts beginning with Owen Upchurch who tore up the FAST record books with record breaking times of 53.38 in the 100 yard freestyle and a 28.03 in the 50 yard backstroke.
Upchurch, Anna McHenry and Mark Theall led the team with three first-places finishes.
Luke Boone, Molly Chen, Luke Leblanc, Cassie Nagle ,Taylor Waston and Megan Westhoven all turned in two first-place finishes.
One first-place finishes included Sarah Carambat, Kara Decker, Chelsea Ebert, Nickie Hansen, Allison Leighton, Thomas McHenry, Alex Raterink, Cooper Raterink, Daniel Rockey, Sallianne Roher, David Scannapieco, Nicholas Schmutz, and Michael Tomerlin.
The 6-year-old and under girls won their free relay with Nickie Hansen, Kelly Decker, Megan Wolf and Bailey Jarvis.
The 9-10-year-old girls won the medley relay with Kara Decker, Sallianne Roher, Olivia Theall, and Christa Westheimer and their free relay with Sydney Schmutz, Eleanor Wondra, Selise Askeland, and Sarah Carambat.
The 11-12-year-old boys won both of their relays.
The freestyle relay members were Evan Metcalf, Thomas Nagle, Alexander Mai and Nicholas Schmutz, while Mark Theall, Alex Raterink, Mitchell Horn and John Gump swam the medley relay.
The 13-14-year-old boys won their free relay with Cooper Raterink, David Scannapieco, Dylan Zawila and Owen Upchurch.
The 13-14-year-old girls swept their relays with Megan Mai, Emily Leonard, Madion Leslie and Caitlin Marr swimming the free relay while Cassie Nagle, Skylar McHenry, Emma Zawila and Molly Chen won the medley relay.
The 15-18-year-old boys won the medley relay with Kyle Mitchell, Taylor Watson, Michael Tomerlin, and Daniel Rockey.
