"The 2010 FAST season was incredibly exciting from beginning to end," said assistant coach Megan Marshall. "Records were broken, and personal best times achieved by many swimmers this year. Any swimmer, coach, or parent would tell you that swim team is a super fun way to spend your summer. The coaches are so proud of all of our swimmers and their accomplishments this season!"
Teams that FAST defeated included Pearland, Deer Park, Baytown, Harbour Town and two mini-meets.
The primary objective of the Friendswood Area Swim Team is to provide a competitive summer swim program for youth ages 6 - 18. The team strives to provide a quality program where swimmers can improve their aquatic skills, and promote teamwork and good sportsmanship, and of course to have lots of FUN! The objective is for all swimmers to come away from this experience with improved swimming skills, increased self-esteem and fond memories.
FAST has served Friendswood High School well as the Mustangs are one of the top swim teams each year at the Class 4A state swim meet while dominating district and regional competition.
There some new FAST records set at the League City meet.
Christopher Hardt set new records for every event in his 8-and-under age group. He set new records in the 25-yard free (15.50), 25-yard backstroke (18.49), 25-yard breaststroke (18.37), and 25-yard fly (17.15).
Also, in the 13-14 age group, the 200-yard free relay team of Jack Maloy, Kyle Beaman, Cooper Raterink and Michael Fowler set a new FAST Record of 1:44.94.
I believe the program is well run and the coaching is an excellent blend of good training, noticeable improvement, yet genuine fun for the kids, said Steve Rockey, FAST President. "I think there is excellent word of mouth about the team. We never advertise yet fill the team each year."
