FRIENDSWOOD — The Texas Sports Writers Association have released their Class 4A All-State teams and the Friendswood Mustangs had four players who were honored on the elite teams.
There are 239 Class 4A teams across the state so it is quite an honor to be considered as one of the upper eschelon players.
Senior Kyle Singleton was named to the All-State second-team as a designated hitter. Singleton hit .394 (41-for-104) with five home runs, 28 runs scored, 39 RBIs, and eight doubles. He was an All-District first-team pick. He had a .492 on-base-percentage (OBP) and a .615 slugging percentage (SLG).
Senior pitcher Kyle Burris was named to the third-team after posting a sparkling 14-3 pitching record with one save. The righthander pitched 100.2 innings and recorded 126 strike outs with a stingy 0.97 ERA. Burris was named as the District 24-4A "Player of the Year."
Senior Alex Anastas was named to the third-team at first base. The UH signee hit .378 (37-for-98) with a .541 OBP and .755SLG. Anastas banged out nine home runs, six doubles, two triples, 43 RBIs, and scored 33 runs. He was an All-District 24-4A first-team selection.
Senior Austin Fitzpatrick was named as a third-team designated hitter after hitting .343 (34-for-99) for a .480 OBP and a .556 SLG. The North Texas signee had 12 doubles, three home runs, 23 RBIs, and 19 runs scored. Fitzpatrick was an All-District first-team pick and was a TSWA All-State third-team selection in 2008 in a repeat performance. Fitzpatrick will play football for North Texas in Denton and intends to continue his baseball career as well.
Senior Cody Bergeson was named as an All-State honorable mention after hitting .352 (37-for-105) with three doubles, three home runs, 25 RBIs, and 33 runs scored. Bergeson was a first-team All-District pick in baseball and football. The all-purpose athlete will continue his education and athletic career at Southeastern Louisiana University where he will be able to play football and baseball.
Senior Forrestt Allday was an All-State honorable mention after he hit .351 (34-for-97) with 15 doubles, two triples, one home run, 25 RBIs, and 32 runs scored. He was a first-team All-District selection.
