FRIENDSWOOD — There is a lot of emphasis in the high school recruiting process involving heights, weights, 40-times and eye-popping stats. But Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine, which is consider the football bible for Texas, has released DCTF's recruiting analyst, Randy Rodgers' third annual pre-season All-Academic Team for the state of Texas.
The Rodgers Recruiting Report is recognizing rising seniors (class of 2010) who have a grade point average of 3.0 or better and a test score of at least 1000 (SAT) or 21 (ACT). Players were nominated by their high school coaches and counselors.
Beau Barnes was recently named to the magazine's pre-season All-Academic second-team defense. Barnes was instrumental in helping the Mustangs advance to the 4A state semifinals last season from his linebacker position. The 6-5, 215 defender is getting looks from several schools, but hopes to play for Rice where his father, Brent, played.
Barnes would also like to follow Rice freshman Andre Gautreaux who was an all-purpose standout for the Mustangs last season.
Congratulations to Beau Barnes for setting a positive example as a true student-athlete.
