Friendswood baseball and softball players named All-District


FRIENDSWOOD, PEARLAND — Players for the Friendswood baseball and softball teams were recently named to the All-District 24-6A teams.

The Friendswood diamondmen finished second in the District 24-6A title race and advanced to the playoffs as the No. 2 seed to face the No. 3 seed Pearland Oilers from District 23-6A.

Pearland swept the Mustangs in a best-of-three series to eliminate Friendswood from the post-season.

Named to the 24-6A All-District first-team was pitcher Brandon Deskins, designated hitter Thad Horman, and outfielder Johnnie Nemecek.

Named as honorable mention All-District was pitcher Rylan Kaufman, catcher Ryan Vera, and first baseman Bradley Wilcott.

Friendswood Lady Mustangs

The Friendswood Lady Mustangs didn't make the playoffs this season, but they still played with all of their hearts and with great intensity.

Several of the players played well enough to be voted on the All-District teams by the league coaches.

Named to the All-District 24-6A first-team was first baseman Kendall Cross, shortstop Patricia Varotsky, and outfielder Reagan Jones.

Named to the second-team was utility player Bayleigh Lay.

Honorable mention players were Elizabeth Higgins and Grace Hahn.
