Oilers remain in playoff hunt with district split

Pearland will host league-leading Clear Lake on Friday, January 27 at 7:00 p.m. The Oilers will travel to Dickinson on Tuesday, January 31 at 7:00 p.m.

Pearland roundballers stay on winning track in district

It has been an up-and-down season for the Pearland Oilers prior to district competition, but it appears that head coach Steve Buckelew is seeing some consistency in the win column in early league action.

Jr. High West Basketball Team

The 8th grade "A" team for Pearland Junior High West won the San Jacinto Tournament.

Pardo named to All-Freshman SEC first-team

Pearland's Malorie Pardo stepped off the high school volleyball court as a senior and onto the big stage of Louisiana State University volleyball and the SEC and continued to show why she was one of the more talented high school players in the nation last season.

Eagles soar over the century mark

For the past three games, the Eagles have soared over the 100-point mark with wins over Ball High (106-56), La Marque (103-74), and most recently Santa Fe (109-51). Dawson has outscored these three teams by an average of 106 to 60.

Van Meter retires as head football coach and AD

The Mustangs have had only two coaches over a 47-year span. It is rare when a local product can return to his alma mater and experience so much success.

Dawson thrashes Ball High 106-56

Dawson had four players in double digits as Dakarai Henderson led the way with 26 points followed by Jarried Littleton (20), Tony Upchurch and Nick Bennett with 14 each.

Karam transfering to Memphis

Under NCAA rules, Karam would have to sit out a year and wait for the 2013 season, but tha won't be the case as Karam has already graduated from Texas Tech with his Bachelor of Arts in University Studies degree. Because he has his degree -- he will become immediately eligible to play in 2012.

Pearland takes out Dickinson in district contest

The Oilers faced Clear Creek on Tuesday (late) and then will host Brazoswood on Friday, January 13 at 7:00 p.m. Clear Brook will come to Pearland on Tuesday, January 17 at 7:00 p.m.

Manvel roundballers carry on mojo

The Mavs are looking to make the basketball playoffs for the first time in school history. This is the fifth varsity season for the Mavs and they are favored, not only to make the post-season this year, but to challenge for the District 24-4A crown.

2011 football season was magical for Mavs

Entering the final game of the season at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington with a school-record 15-0 mark and a chance to win the Class 4A Div. II state championship was a dream of a lifetime for Manvel head coach Kirk Martin, his coaching staff, and his players.

Friendswood has posted an outstanding 34-8 record over the previous three years (2008, 2009, 2010) and were an early 2011 season favorite to battle for the league crown and make another deep run in the playoffs.

New Year's resolutions are always the topic of conversation at this time. We make them - we break them. Promises are made, but are not always kept. Not because we are dishonest, but because we are human.

Local teams participate in Alvin Lion's Holiday Classic

The 25th annual Alvin Lion's Holiday Classic basketball tournament will be this week on December 27-29, 2011.


The Friendswood Mustangs, Manvel Mavericks, and Pearland Oilers will participate in the boys division while the Manvel Lady Mavericks and Pearland Lady Oilers will participate in the girls division.


Teams will open up play on Tuesday, December 27 and a full schedule will be featured on Wednesday, December 28 with the finals being played on Thursday, December 29.

Several Pearland players were named to the All-District 24-5A offensive and defensive teams for their outstanding performances on the field.

When asked about his seniors, Martin said, "This is a special bunch and many of them are going to continue onto college. I am just so proud of them because they are an extra special bunch, and I am clearly excited for the future of this program."

While the Manvel football team has been getting all the top press, the Lady Mavericks basketball team is making a name for themselves on the hardwood and look to be the team to beat this year for the District 24-4A crown.

Martin named "Coach of the Year" by TD Club of Houston

The Mavericks have been playing varsity football for only four years so getting to the state finals is quite an accomplishment for such a young program.

Martinez kicks Mavericks to 4A state final

"I went out there and just thought over and over 'Between the poles, between the poles, between the poles,'" Martinez said. "It was for a trip to state and I just wanted to finish it."

The Pearland Lady Oilers had another successful season and several players were honored by the District 24-5A coaches for their outstanding individual performances.

Wells named TD Club of Houston fnalist

For the second time in four years, Dawson head coach Eric Wells has been named as a "Coach of the Year" finalist by the Touchdown Club of Houston after leading the Eagles to the Class 4A Region III Division I title and another trip to the 4A Div. I state semifinals.

Alexander claims top defensive award by TD Club of Houston

This year, Alexander was all over the field as had one pass disruption, 15 QB hurries, six assisted tackles, 27 unassisted stops, eight sacks, 17 tackles for loss, three caused fumbles, and one fumble recovery.

Oilers knock off No. 1 team in the nation

No one believed that Pearland could knock off the nation's No. 1 team and defending Class 5A Division I state champion Euless Trinity. The pre-game predictions were that Pearland had no chance and would get steamrolled by the much larger players from Euless.
