MANVEL — The Manvel Lady Mavericks volleyball team finished fourth in the District 24-4A race and advanced to the playoffs for the second straight year in their young four-year school history. The Lady Mavs faced top-seeded Richmond Foster and were swept in the first round 25-10, 25-20, 25-18 to close out the 2009 volleyball season.
Manvel had four players who were named to the All-District 24-4A teams in honor of their outstanding season.
Cara Fisher was named to the All-District first-team with 167 kills, six assists, and 247 digs. Ali Sluismans was also named to the first-team with 182 kills, 18 assists, 23 blocks, and 158 digs.
Named to the All-District second-team was Smantha Orta and Courtney Klingler. Orta had seven kills, 10 blocks, 101 digs, and 434 assists. Klingler had 161 kills, eight blocks, seven assists, and 179 digs.
