Manvel routs Sharpstown 68-0 in district opener

MANVEL — Sharpstown was no match for Manvel as the Mavs opened up District 11-5A Div. II action with a 68-0 rout over the hapless Apollos. And looking at their other district opponents, it seems that it will be more of the same for most of the season until Manvel moves on in the post-season.

Manvel scored in almost every conceivable way possible in the scoring parade.

The Mavs put the game out of reach in the opening 12 minutes when they scored 42 points.

Kameryn Alexander scored on the first play of the game when he returned the opening kickoff 84-yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead with only 15 seconds gone in the game.

Manvel scored again in 24 seconds when Jalen Paxton scored on a 22-yard pass from Josh Coltrin making the score 14-0.

The Mavs forced a punt and Ladarius Owens scored on a 24-yard blocked punt for a 21-0 lead at the 9:21 mark of the first quarter.

Manvel defense forced another punt and this time Alexander fielded the punt and returned it 59-yards for a score and a 28-0 lead.

On Manvel's next possession, running back Garrison Johnson raced 40-yards for a score and a 35-0 advantage.

With 3:35 still left in the first quarter, Owens scored on a 1-yard plunge for the 42-0 lead.

Manvel added another score in the second quarter on a 16-yard scoring pass from Coltrin to Roland Kimble and a 49-0 lead at intermission.

The Mavs scored three more times in the second half as Donovan Eaglin scored twice on runs of 3 and 11 yards and Rashad Dease scored on a 36-yard run to make the final 68-0.

No. 4 area-ranked Manvel will face their toughest test this week when they face No. 1 area-ranked Fort Bend Marshall on Friday, September 21 at 7:00 p.m. at Freedom Field.
