Manvel routs Houston Sterling 62-26


MANVEL — It was another ho-hum district game as Manvel throttle Houston Sterling 62-26 as the Manvel Mavericks punched their ticket to the playoffs.

The Mavs are now 6-2 on the season with two games left on the schedule against Fort Bend Willowridge and Houston Waltrip.

Manvel is heavily favored to win both games and then will begin their trek through the playoffs again this year.

The first half was a blowout as the Mavs scored 21 points in the opening quarter and 21 points in the second frame while Sterling managed eight points leaving Manvel with a lopsided 42-8 halftime score.

Sterling tried to make a game of it in the third quarter 18-13, but Manvel would shut them down in the fourth quarter 7-0 to post the 62-26 final score.

Quarterback Joshua Coltrin was 11-of-18 passing for 177 yards and two TDs.

Ladarius Owens had 17 carries for 144 yards and one touchdown while also running a kickoff back 88-yards for another score. Garrison Johnson had four carries for 82 yards and two TDs.

Eric Hebert had four catches for 76 yards and 56 yards rushing on two carries for a TD. Roland Kimble had three grabs for 56 yards and one score.

The Mavs will travel to Hall Stadium on Saturday, November 3 at 1:00 p.m. to face the Willowridge Eagles.
