No. 1 Manvel scorches Madison 49-6 in playoffs

MANVEL — It didn't take long for Manvel to take control of their Class 5A Region III Div. I playoff contest as they ripped the Madison Marlins 49-6 to advance to the second round of the post-season where they will face the Nederland Bulldogs on Friday, Nov. 24 at 4:00 p.m. at NRG Stadium.

Manvel's defense was as vital as the offense as they held the Marlins to only 93 total yards with including 6-of-15 passing for 43 yards with one interception.

Meanwhile, the Mavs offense was explosive as usual and the Marlins had no answer no matter what Manvel did.

With 8:17 left before halftime, the Mavs added another score on an 8-yard run by Garrison Johnson to make the score 42-0.

Manvel settled for one more score in the third quarter when Johnson got loose on a 17-yard scoring dash to make the score 49-0.

Martin pulled the starters to get ready for the next round and the back-up players got some experience while holding the Marlins to one score on a 2-yard run with only 1:14 left to go in the contest making the final score 49-6 as the missed two-point conversion.
