PEARLAND — It is that time of the year when the University Interscholastic League, which is the governing body for all of Texas high school sports, announced their biennial realignment placing schools in their respective districts for the next two years.
The reason for this is because schools increase or decrease their enrollment so the UIL has to realign schools for competitive reasons.
For the most part locally -- there weren't any real surprises.
As expected as a possibility - Pearland was returned to District 24-5A with Alvin, Brazoswood, Clear Brook, Clear Creek, Clear Lake, Clear Springs, and Dickinson.
Galveston Ball, who has been in that district for many years, was dropped from 5A to 4A because of the declining numbers as a result of Hurricane Ike. However - Galveston ISD athletic director Sandra Howell believes that those numbers might rise to return the Tornadoes to 5A in the next re-alignment.
Ball High joins District 24-4A which includes Friendswood, La Marque, Manvel, Pearland Dawson, Texas City, and Santa Fe.
Angleton and Brazosport, who have been in 24-4A the past two years, were moved back to District 23-4A with Bay City, El Campo, Foster, Lamar Consolidated, and Terry.
