Lady Oilers edge Lady Eagles 45-34


PEARLAND — The final score between the Pearland Lady Oilers and the Dawson Lady Eagles wasn't indicative of how the actual game was played.

Despite an 11-point victory by the Lady Oilers, the first two quarters belonged to the Lady Eagles as Pearland had to rally in the second half to pull out the win.

In fact, the two teams entered the final eight minutes tied at 26-26.

Dawson took the first period 8-3 as Jada Rogers led the Lady Eagles with six points while the defense held the Lady O's to only one field goal, a 3-pointer by Macey Braswell.

Pearland gathered a little momentum in the second quarter 8-7, but trailed at intermission 15-11.

The Lady Oilers continued to raise their level of play by taking the third quarter 15-11 leaving both teams tied at 26-26 entering the final eight minutes of action.

Braswell continued to increase her own intensity with seven points while Jocelyn Thompson was 4-of-6 from the free throw line while adding a basket for six points.

Dawson got a good effort from Teshuna Lockhart who score five points.

But the fourth quarter belonged to Braswell as she hit a trey, three baskets, and 2-for-2 at the line for 11 points and a game-high 23 points in leading Pearland to the 45-34 district win.

Pearland improves to 18-8 overall and 4-1 in district play.

Dawson falls to 10-14 overall and 2-3 in league action.

The Lady Oilers got a strong offensive showing from Ravae Payne who scored 10 points.

The Lady Eagles were led by Rogers who had 11 points while Lockhart tossed in seven points.

Pearland will host Alief Elsik on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 7:00 p.m. The Lady Oilers will travel to Alief Taylor on Friday, Jan. 27 at 7:00 p.m.

Dawson will host Alief Hastings on Friday, Jan. 20 at 7:00 p.m.

Dawson 51 - Alief Elsik 41

The Dawson Lady Eagles got back on the winning track when they defeated the Alief Elsik Lady Rams 51-41 to even their district record at 3-3 and 11-14 overall.


Pearland 54 - George Ranch 51

Sophomore Macey Braswell scored a game-high 28 points to lead the Lady Oilers to a 54-51 overtime district win over George Ranch.

Pearland led 24-16 at halftime, but saw George Ranch take the third quarter 20-10 for a 36-34 lead entering the final period.

The Lady O's outscored the Lady Horns 13-11 in the fourth to tie the game at 47-47 to force overtime.

Pearland won the extra period 7-4 to get the win and improve to 5-1 in district and 19-8 overall.


Clear Lake 63 - Friendswood 34

After a competitive first half, Clear Lake ran away with the game in the second half to hand the Friendswood Lady Mustangs another tough District 24-6A defeat.

It was a football score at halftime, with Clear Lake holding a slim 24-21 lead, but the Falcons soared high in the second half, outscoring Friendswood, 16-3, in the third quarter and, 23-10, in the final period.

Friendswood closed the first half of 24-6A play with a 1-6 mark.
