La Marque knocks off No. 1 Friendswood
The No. 1 area -ranked Friendswood Lady Mustangs traveled to face district rival No. 10 La Marque in a battle of the unbeatens and when the final buzzer sounded -- it was the Lady Cougars who prevailed 44-39.
The loss dropped the Lady Mustangs from the top spot to No. 5 while the Lady Cougars moved up to a No 4 area ranking.
Jessieka Palmer scored 17 points to lead La Marque (16-7, 7-0) while Jaleesa Allen added eight and nine rebounds and Brianna Lewis also had eight points.
Friendswood (20-3, 6-1) was led by Annalisa Hall (11 points) and Taylor Wilson (10 points).
La Marque led 23-16 at halftime. Both teams scored 12 points in the third quarter allowing the Lady Coogs to hold on to their seven point advantage 35-28 entering the final frame.
Friendswood outscored La Marque 11-9 in the final eight minutes, but it wasn't enough to pull out the win.
Friendswood 66 - Brazosport 14Friendswood opened up the first quarter against Brazosport with 18-0 while the Lady Exporters couldn't find a basket. It was 30-3 at halftime. The Lady 'Stangs continued their barrage in the second half outscoring the visitors 36-11.
Kellsey Kaufhold and Jennifer Twyford led the scoring for Friendswood with 13 points each while Annalisa Hall and Jill Bergeson tossed in 10 each.
Dawson Lady Eagles get on winning trackThe Dawson Lady Eagles dropped their first four District 24-4A games to begin with an 0-4 mark, but head coach Isabel Gomez has seen a lot of improvement from her girls as they have continued to battle to pick up three staright district wins over Brazosport, Texas City, and Santa Fe.
Dawson 51 - Texas City 37Jamsmine Charles was the offensive spark plug for the Lady Eagles as she scored a game-high 15 points to lead Dawson (9-15, 2-4) to a 51-37 win over Texas City.
Dawson jumped out to a 22-13 halftime lead and then pulled away 17-8 in the third quarter for a comfortable 39-21 advantage before Texas City outscored the visitors 16-12 as Gomez emptied her bench.
Sidtrice Crichlow scored eight points while Tierreny Moody, Jasmine Colbert, and Ashlie Pinnock added six points each in the win.
Dawson 50 - Santa Fe 33The Lady Eagles hosted the Lady Indians for a 50-33 win to improve their District 24-4A mark to 3-4 and move into contention for the fourth playoff spot.
After first round district action - La Marque (7-0), Friendswood (6-1), and Manvel (5-2) have the top three spots while Dawson (3-4), Texas City, and Angleton (3-4) are in a tie for fourth place, but the Lady Eagles hold the tie breaker over those two teams. Brazosport and Santa Fe are both out of the running.
Sidtrice Crichlow led Dawson with 13 points in the win over Santa Fe. Kori Knoxson added 10 points and six boards while Jasmine Colbert tossed in nine points and six rebounds. Jasmine Charles had six points, four blocks, and three steals. Dalayia Mallory was strong on defense with seven steals.
Dawson built a 34-17 halftime lead and then cruised past the Lady Indians in the second half as both teams scored 16 points leaving the final score at 50-33.
Lady Oilers on playoff track Pearland 56 - Pasadena Memorial 36The playoff race in District 22-5A is forming clearly and the Pearland Lady Oilers are currently sitting in fourth place.
Head coach Donna Vacek saw her girls give their best offensive performance of the season when they beat Pasadena Memorial 56-36 to improve their district mark to 4-3 at the end of the first round.
Kiara Freeman led the offensive assault with 20 points as she hit four field goals, two 3-pointers, and was 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
Taylor Haynes added nine points and Jasmine Lanier tossed in eight points. Johnasha Manning had a team-high eight rebounds while Ebony Ford and Jill Jeffers each had six boards.
