Friendswood 49, Texas City 21
Kellsey Kaufhold scored19 points and grabbed12 rebounds to almost outscore Texas City's entire team while leading the Lady Mustangs to a lopsided 49-21 district win.
Annalisa Hall (11 points, five assists, four steals) and Jill Bergeson (11 points, nine rebounds, five assists) also contributed for Friendswood (21-3, 7-1).
The win was important as Angleton upset La Marque 55-52 as the Lady Cougars (17-8, 7-1) dropped their first district game of the season, moving them into a tie with Friendswood for first place in District 24-4A.
Angleton 49, Friendswood 40
The Angleton Lady Wildcats beat their second consecutive first-place team in 24-4A. Angleton knocked off previously unbeaten La Marque and then followed that with a 49-40 stunner over the Friendswood Lady Mustangs.
Kellsey Kaufhold led Friendswood (21-4, 7-2) with 15 points and nine points, while Taylor Wilson had eight points and Annalisa Hall scored three. The loss drops Friendswood into second place in the league title race behind La Marque.
Pearland 53 - South Houston 50
The Pearland Lady Oilers are currently sitting in a tie for third-place with La Porte at 6-3 while Pasadena Dobie is atop the leaderboard at 8-0 while Deer Park is second at 7-2. The playoff race has become a four-team contest as South Houston, Pasadena Memorial, Sam Rayburn, and Pasadena are at least three games back of the third place teams.
The Lady Oilers escaped with a 53-50 win over South Houston to maintain their place for a playoff spot.
Pearland led 26-22 at halftime. South Houston outscored the Lady O's 15-14 to move within three points 40-37. Both teams scored 13 points in the final eight minutes as Pearland hung on for the 53-50 victory. Ebony Ford led the scoring for Pearland with 10 points.
Pearland 61 - Deer Park 53 (OT)
Pearland head coach Donna Vacek saw her girls avenge a first round 32-22 loss to the Lady Deer to improve to 6-3 in district play while Deer Park drops to 7-2. Pearland is only one game back of second-place Deer Park in the league race while Dobie maintains a perfect 8-0 mark.
The Lady O's trailed 26-22 at halftime and then both teams battled to a 51-51 tie at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime. Pearland outscored the visitors 10-5 to get the 61-56 win.
Ebony Ford led all scorers with 21 points while Johnasha Manning tossed in 18 and Marissa LeJune added 10 for Pearland.
Manvel 48 - Dawson 45
The Dawson Lady Eagles began district action with an 0-4 mark before they won three straight league games to improve their record to 3-4 and back into contention for a possible playoff spot.
Manvel knocked off the Lady Eagles 59-43 in the opening round of district competition. However, the second round was a little tougher for Manvel (5-3) who escaped with a 48-45 win over Dawson (3-5) to begin the second round.
Both teams battled evenly in the first half as the score was tied 22-22 at the end of 16 minutes of action.
But Dawson pulled ahead to take the third quarter 14-7 for a 36-29 advantage, but the Lady Mavericks unleased their offense to outscore Dawson 19-9 down the stretch to pull out the 48-45 win.
Jasmine Colbert led the Lady Eagles with eight points while Jasmine Charles and Ashlie Pinnock each score seven points with Kori Knoxson adding five points.
Olivia Madison led Manvel with 20 points while Jasmine Allen tossed in 14.
La Marque 56 - Dawson 51 (OT)
Facing the first place team in the district is always a challenge -- but falling to that team in overtime shows how much Dawson has improved from their first meeting when the La Marque beat the Lady Eagles 53-39.
Dawson took the first quarter 12-11 and then increased their lead with a 12-8 second period for a 24-19 lead at intermission.
La Marque battled back to take the third quarter 16-11 to enter the final eight minutes of action tied at 30-30.
Both teams pulled out their offensive punch in the final frame with both teams chalking up 16 points in the last eight minutes leaving the game tied 46-46 at the end of regulation.
But the Lady Cougars had a little more left in their tank to outscore Dawson 10-5 to pick up the 56-51 overtime win.
Sidtrice Crichlow led the Lady Eagles with 15 points while Ashlie Pinnock tossed in 11.
