PEARLAND — Pearland senior catcher Kelly Cross was selected by the Minnesota Twins Tuesday in the 26th round of the Major League Baseball first-year player draft.
Cross was taken with the 795th pick. He recently signed a letter-of-intent to attend San Jacinto College.
The 6-3, 200 pound catcher helped the Oilers capture the 2010 District 22-5A title and was an instrumental player when the 2009 Pearland team won the 5A Region III crown and advanced to the 5A state semifinals his junior season.
Cross hit .360 in 2010 with 14 doubles, six home runs, 28 RBIs, and 27 runs scored. Cross also was 4-0 on the mound with a 1.81 ERA and 26 strikeouts.
