PEARLAND — Kelly Cross, who was recently drafted by the Minnesota Twins, was named to the Texas Sports Writers Association Class 5 All-State third-team. Cross hit .423 with 17 doubles, seven home runs, 41 RBIs, and 34 runs scored. Cross was an All-District 22-5A first-team pick while helping the Oilers to win the league championship.
There were two other Pearland players who were named All-State honorable mention.
Pitcher Matt Rhodes had a 9-2 mark with 61 innings pitched and a 1.84 ERA. Opposing hitters had a .228 batting average against the southpaw. Rhodes also hit .302 with four doubles, two triples, 15 RBIs, and 42 runs scored. Rhodes was a third-team All-State pick last season. He had over 20 wins for the Oilers for the past two years.
Third baseman Drew DeKerlegand had a .462 batting average with 11 doubles, four triples, two home runs, 30 RBIs, and 47 runs scored.
Rhodes and DeKerlegand were both All-District 22-5A first-team selections for the second straight year.
