PEARLAND — Former Pearland pitcher Robbie Weinhardt was the Detroit Tigers' 10th round (313th overall) pick in the 2008 major league baseball draft.
Weinhardt began his collegiate career for Hill College before moving on to play for the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Weinhardt, 24, made his big league debut last Wednesday against Baltimore. The righthander was brought in against the Minnesota Twins in relief this past Friday with the bases loaded.
Twins RBI leader Delmon Young came up to the plate and Weinhardt promptly delivered a sinker that produced a ground ball double play to get out of the inning. He also had a 1-2-3 seventh inning and became the hot topic of conversation by Tiger manager Jim Leyland. The Tigers won the game 7-3.
