Texas Sports Writers honor area softball players


PEARLAND — The Texas Sports Writers Association released their annual All-State selections and three area players were honored.

Named as a TSWA first-team All-Stater was Pearland outfielder Kaylee Buck who has received several honors this season.

Buck was recently named to the All-Greater Houston first-team. Buck was also recently named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Stars and was also a first-team All-District selection after she hit .500 with 27 runs scored, nine RBIs, and four doubles. She was also a second-team All-State selection by the Texas Sports Writers Association.

Buck will continue her education and playing career at Texas Tech University.

Named to the TSWA All-State second-team was Dawson junior pitcher Courtney Day.

Day was named as the District 23-6A MVP after she posted a 14-4 pitching mark. The Sam Houston commit pitched 121.2 innings, allowed only 17 earned runs while whiffing 143 batters. She gave up only one home run and finished with a sparkling 0.98 earned run average.

Day was also a warrior at the plate as she hit .521 with 15 runs scored, four doubles, and a team-leading 40 RBIs and 15 home runs.

Named as an All-State honorable mention was Pearland shortstop Janna Roberts who hit .392 with 20 runs scored, nine RBIs, three doubles, and four triples.
