PEARLAND — Over 70 teams will invade Pearland for the nation's largest volleyball tournament on August 26-28.
Pearland head coach John Turner has been the mastermind of this great event that is called the Texas pre-season state volleyball tournament as there will be state champions and state contenders vying to win this prestigious NIKE Volleyball Classic Tournament.
As part of Turner's vision - the tournament is also committed to raising funds to fight cancer.
"This year we are going to raise money for the Livestrong Foundation which will go towards the fight against cancer," Turner said.
On Thursday, August 26, we will be having “Splash It Yellow Day” in Pearland," Turner said. "All the teams participating in the tournament will design their own t-shirts that are predominately yellow and wear it throughout the day on Thursday. We will also have the businesses throughout Pearland decorating their offices and also wearing YELLOW on Thursday!
We encourage all of you as fans to do the same – WEAR YELLOW on Thursday, August 26. We hope to show the state that volleyball cares and will help beat this dreaded disease."
Volleyball fans can go to: www.pvbclassic.com to get the schedule and see the top teams in the state right here in our own backyard.
Laura Wassner will be the guest for the opening ceremony. She was recently named USAT Pro Rookie of the Year. She is the first cancer survivor to earn a USA Triathlon Elite License all while working as a photographer, photo editor and graphic designer.
