FREEPORT — Pearland head coach Lori Ziegelmeyer couldn't have been happier with the start of the 2009 PHS cross country season as the Lady Oilers went to Brazoswood HS and returned home with most of the hardware -- including the team trophy.
"This is the best 'in shape' team that we’ve ever had at this point in the season so I’m expecting great things," Ziegelmeyer said.
Leading the way was Courtney Mose who won the meet with a gold medal winning time of 12:43. Virginia Ney was a close third with a time of 12:49. Amanda Maniet took sixth place in 13:12 followed by Jia LeBlanc (9th - 13:35), Kathlyn Lee (11th - 13:39), Brittany Crisp (13th - 13:52), and Kelly Simmons (15th - 13:57).
All seven Pearland girls medaled as Pearland won the meet with 30 points to finish ahead of second-place Memorial who scored 66 points. Host Brazoswood was third with 71 points followed by Friendswood (89) and Kempner (109).
"I'm extremely proud of this team," Ziegelmeyer said. "They're all very hard workers and every one of them did their summer running so I'm excited to see what they're going to do this year. We're look forward to this week's relay-type format at Clear Lake on Friday, September 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Miramar Park in Seabrook."
