Dawson begins district play on winning path
Last year - the Dawson Lady Eagles competed in their first year of varsity competition where they finished in a tie for fourth place in the district standings. Dawson played Texas City in a tie-breaker and barely lost leaving the Lady Eagles at home from the post-season.
Last week - Dawson opened District 24-4A against Texas City, but left no doubt as to who was the better team as the Lady Eagles swept the Lady Stingarees 25-16, 25-16, 25-20 for a 1-0 league mark while improving to 15-13 overall.
Dawson kill leader was Camryn Kazmierski who had nine kills. Katie Haynie had 20 assists.
Dawson knocks off 5A Clear Springs
In Dawson's final non-district contest, the Lady Eagles knocked off 5A Clear Springs 25-11, 24-26, 15-25, 25-14, 16-14 which served as a great confidence booster going into league play.
Camryn Kazmierski led the offense with 13 kills while Katie Haynie continued to lead the team with 24 assists.
This is the first big match that we have taken to five games and won," head coach Lori McLaughlin said. "Phenomenal team win and great spread of our offense and defense. This is exactly what we needed going into district on Friday. I am very pleased with how we are playing."
Pearland sweeps Pasadena to open league action
As expected, the Pearland Lady Oilers are one of the favorites to win the District 24-4A volleyball crown this season and they began district action with a 3-0 win over Pasadena.
