No. 4 Friendswood sweeps Santa Fe
Friendswood and Santa Fe were the pre-season picks to challenge for the District 24-4A crown this season, but after the Lady Mustangs swept the Lady Indians 25-16, 25-18, 25-10 -- they left no doubt that they are the ones to beat.
Not only did the Lady 'Stangs totally dominate the match -- they did it at Santa Fe which is always a tough place to play.
Friendswood (26-4) were never really challenged as they dominated the net and never allowed Santa Fe's big hitters to get in the flow of the game.
Friendswood head coach Jerry Linch placed three of his girls over six-feet tall at the net to counter Santa Fe's tall lineup.
"I think it threw (Santa Fe) off balance a bit," Linch said. "I know we can play with anyone offensively, but when we get good defense and good blocking, I feel pretty confident about our chances."
The Lady Mustangs displayed a balanced attack as Siobhan O'Neill dished out 34 assists in three games. Sarrah Woolley had a game-high five blocks while Tiffany Thomas had four kills and three blocks. Jasmine Casey led the Lady Mustangs with 15 kills while Annie Mitchem added 10.
