The Friendswood Lady Mustangs and the Dawson Lady Eagles advanced with volleyball playoff wins while the Pearland Lady Oilers dropped their second round contest to fall out of the playoffs.
The No. 4 Lady Mustangs never gave Houston Reagan a chance. Friendswood didn’t let the Lady Bulldogs get into double-digit points, easily disposing of Reagan in straight sets, 25-6, 25-9, 25-7.
The Lady Mustangs will now play district foe Pearland Dawson at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Alvin.
Friendswood beat the Lady Eagles both times in league play, though Dawson did take one game from the Lady Mustangs.
Annie Mitchem had 10 kills and four blocks to power Friendswood (39-6) while Aimee Peck served up six aces.
Kaelan O’Neill had 12 digs and Siobhan O’Neill dished out 18 assists.
Dawson easily takes out Houston Washington
It didn't take very long for the Pearland Dawson Lady Eagles to end the volleyball season for Houston Washington in the Class 4A Region III area round of the volleyball playoffs.
Dawson (25-18) cruised to a 25-6, 25-5, 25-8 win to advance to the region quarterfinals for the first time in school history. In fact - Dawson is in the playoffs for the first time ever in their young three-year history.
“I told them, ‘After this set we are going to be quarterfinalist and you need to play as a quarterfinalist team,’” Lady Eagles coach Lori McLaughlin said. “We worked really hard, and we need not take things like this for granted.”
For Pearland Dawson, Kazmierski finished with nine kills; Katie Haynie had 13 assists; Emily Malloy had four digs; and Grace Underwood five blocks.
The Eagles will really be tested against district rival Friendswood on Tuesday, November 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Alvin HS.
Dulles sweeps Pearland
The Lady Oilers have struggled to get out of the opening round in recent years. Pearland did so the past two years -- but now it seems that the second round is going to be another hurdle that Pearland must clear.
Facing one of the top teams in the area in the Dulles Lady Vikings - Pearland struggled to keep up throughout each game.
Dulles swept the Lady Oilers, 25-15, 25-19, 25-18, and will continue on to the next round.
Pearland found themselves behind in each game early and couldn't overcome the strong aggressiveness by Dulles.
The Lady won the District 22-5A and close out with a sparkling 30-9 overall record and 13-1 in league play.
The Lady Oilers will only lose three seniors off their squad for next year.
