Pearland's Kendall Jackson qualifies for state golf tournament


PEARLAND — She may only be a freshman, but Pearland High School's Kendall Jackson has done something no other Lady Oiler has ever done and that is qualify for the 6A state golf tournament.

"On the final hole of the regional tournament, Kendall hit a 156-yard 4 hybrid to 10 inches and tapped it in for birdie securing a spot in the state tournament," said Pearland girls golf coach Robert Stiles.

Jackson turned in rounds of 76 and 77 to qualify for the Class 6A state girls tournament and place fifth at the Region III-6A tournament at Eagle Pointe Golf Club in Mont Belvieu

"Her two rounds were not only her personal bests, but broke the Pearland High School girl's record of 78," Stiles said.

Pearland's team shot a 346-333-679 to finish fifth at the event.

The rest of the Lady Oiler team and their scores were: Juliana Hudman (90-78-168), Alyssa Goins (85-84-169), Victoria Broussard (95-94-189) and Logan Vaughn (97-96-193).

Pearland's B team finished 13th with a team total of 400-396-796.

Players and their scores were: Carson Lyons (101-96-197), Janelle Gaitan (97-100-197), Kaylah Angel (100-101-201), Caitlyn Evans (102-99-201) and Lindsey Diehl (102-103-205).

Dawson's Sophie Aguirre finished 43rd with rounds of 93-89-192 while teammate Bianca Salinas shot 89-96-185 to finish 47th. Both were competing as medalists.

Friendswood also had two medalists competing.

Heidi Demel fired rounds of 85-77-162 to finish tied for 15th while Hannah Johnston had rounds of 91-80-171 to place 28th.
