Pearland pounds Manvel 12-3; playoffs next

PEARLAND — The Pearland Oilers closed out the regular season with a 12-3 pounding over the Manvel Mavericks to finish as the No. 2 seed in District 22-6A to advance to the post-season. Alvin won the district title while Dawson and Manvel finished as the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds respectively.

The Oilers had already punched their ticket to the playoffs prior to the game so it was just a matter of closing out the regular season with a win and positive momentum.

Raymon Garza led the offensive charge for the Oilers as he homered and drove in three runs powering Pearland to the 12-3 win.

The Oilers end the regular season with a 22-5 record and a 14-2 district mark.

Pearland will enter the playoffs as the No. 2 seed behind district champion Alvin, and will take on Galena Park North Shore in the first round of the playoffs.

The Oilers scored four runs in the first inning, one in the third, three each in the fourth and sixth innings and one run in the fifth.

Macord Foran tripled, double and drove in two runs while Chase Keasler went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.

Craig Mattes tripled and drove in two runs while Caleb Maly also had an RBI.
