December 26, 2016
PEARLAND — Pearland's Brooke Botkin continues to rake in the post-season honors after being named to the Chronicle's All-Greater Houston first-team.
Botkin is a three-time MVP for the district and was recently named the 2016 Player of the Year by the Texas Association of Volleyball Coaches.
Botkin is a three-time All-State selection by the Texas Girls Coaches Association and the Texas Sports Writers Association and a two-time Greater Houston Volleyball Pre-season Player of the Year in addition to numerous national honors.
The Under Armour All-American will play for USC next fall, but graduates in December so she'll head to Los Angeles in early 2017.
"She is the best six-rotation player we've had in the history of the school," head coach John Turner said. "Malorie (Pardo) was an incredible player, but what Brooke brings to the table with her blocking ability, digging, aces, setting, and of course, the kills, she's just surpassed everyone."
Botkin's numbers are mind-boggling during her four-year high school career. She will no doubt be a force at the next level at the University of Southern California.
Among her four-year career statistics, Botkin registered 2,155 kills, 147 blocks, 1,301 digs, and 134 aces.
Botkin was a finalist for Gatorade Player of the Year in Texas in 2015 and 2016.
Named to the All-Greater Houston third-team was Dawson junior Jordyn Sinnette and Friendswood senior Shannon Murphy.
Sinnette led the Lady Eagles to the District 23-6A championship. She registered 534 kills, 35 aces, 46 blocks, 273 digs.
She also shared 23-6A Co-MVP honors with Pearland's Brooke Botkin. She was named to the All-Tournament team at the Volleypolooza Tournament.
Murphy led the Lady Mustangs to the playoffs for the first times since Friendswood moved up to Class 6A.
The standout Murphy registered 467 kills, 380 digs, 82 aces this season. She was a named to the Texas Association of Volleyball Coaches pre-season All-State team. She was listed on the Greater Houston Volleyball Coaches Association Fab 50.
