Pearland Oilers

Oilers looking to make another trip to state

So far, the No. 1 state-ranked Pearland Oilers are showing the talent that they could make another run at the state baseball tournament. Of course, head coach Anthony Scalise is determined to keep his diamondmen focused on one game at a time. The Oilers captured the 5A Region III title last year before falling in the state-semifinals.

The first goal is for the Oilers to capture the District 22-6A crown which is something they didn't get last year thanks to two losses to the Dobie Longhorns.

However, the Oilers are making sure they don't fall into that trap this year as they opened up 22-6A with a vengeance by beating the Longhorns 10-5 in the district opener for both squads.

Pearland improved to 2-0 in district when they slammed Pasadena 13-3.

So far - Pearland has an 11-1-1 overall record and district action gets into full swing this week as the Oilers faced South Houston on Tuesday (late) and will host Dawson on Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Dawson Eagles

The Dawson Eagles are hoping to rebound from a disappointing 2014 season in which they barely missed making the playoffs.

So far, the Eagles look to be competitive and currently have a 1-1 district record. Dawson lost to Alvin 5-2 to open up District 22-6A action, but rebounded with a solid victory over Sam Rayburn 17-5.

Dawson is currently 3-4 overall on the season. The Eagles host Pasadena Memorial on Tuesday (late) and they will travel to face Pearland on Friday, March 13 at 7:00 p.m.
