PEARLAND — The Pearland Lady Oilers knocked off Alvin 2-1 to move into a three-way tie for first place with the Dobie Lady Longhorns and the Alvin Lady Yellowjackets. Each team has one loss as the first round of league play comes to a close.
Pearland followed up that victory last week with a 5-1 win over Pasadena Memorial.
Junior pitcher Alyssa Denham got the win for Pearland thanks to seven strikeouts. She allowed one earned run, eight hits and one walk over seven innings.
Pearland took the lead after the second inning, when they scored two runs.
The Lady Oilers added two more runs in the top of the fifth. A wild pitch scored Janna Roberts to open the scoring in the frame. That was followed up by Natalie Romeo's single, scoring Sydney Gutierrez who smashed a triple.
