Lady Oilers back on winning path with district wins

PEARLAND — Pearland finished the first round of district action with a 3-3 mark so getting back on the winning trail was important to head coach Laneigh Clark.

The Lady Oilers have done exactly that with wins over Alief Taylor and Alief Hastings.

Against, Taylor, Pearland's Alyssa Fort and Natalie Trujillo combined for a three-inning no-hitter while the offense got untracked for a 16-0 shutout while using an 18-hit attack.

Natalie Myers drove in four runs with three hits while Ashlin Moreno had three hits and three RBI. Jana Roberts also had three hits for Pearland.

Fort and Trujillo combined to fan eight of the nine batters they faced.

Pearland 17 - Alief Hastings 0

This game lasted only 2 1/2 innings as the Lady Oilers scored seven runs in the first inning and 10 in the second for a 17-0 thrashing.

Pearland used three pitchers to throw an inning each before the 15-run rule took effect after three frames.

Natalie Trujillo pitched the first frame and struck out all three batters. Samantha Lucas pitched the second inning and struck out two of the three batters. Natalie Myers closed out the third inning with two out of three going down swinging. It was nine batters up and nine batters down for the perfect three innings while the Pearland offense scored at will.

The Lady Oilers beat Alief Elsik 15-0 to begin the second round of district play and they are now 6-3 with the meat of the league teams coming up. Pearland should make the post-season, but the team is looking to continue their momentum.

Pearland will host George Ranch on Friday, April 13 at 6:45 p.m. and will be looking to avenge a first-round loss to the Lady Longhorns.
