The Pearland Lady Oilers are off to a good start this year by recording a 6-2 record after the first two weeks of play. The Lady Oilers opened up the season against one of the top teams in the area the Stratford Spartans. Pearland came up short trying to pull off the first big upset of the season. The Lady Oilers lost by the scores of 24-26, 24-26, 25-22, 20-25. Junior, S/OH, Malorie Pardo led the way with 18 kills and 24 assists. Senior, S/OH, Marissa Collins added 15 kills and 27 assists.
The Lady Oilers then took on Atascocita and won a hard fought five game match 25-19, 17-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-8. The Lady Oilers were once again led by Malorie Pardo and Marissa Collins with 17 kills apiece. Sophomore, DS, Kaylie Young led the way in digs with 22. Senior , Libero, Carlee Lacy added 18 digs to the cause. Junior, Genny Turk had 10 blocks and four kills. Freshman, Callie McNeil added eight kills and three blocks. Freshman, Courtlyn Castle had five kills and five blocks.
The Lady Oilers then had another tough five game match against Katy Taylor. The Lady Oilers pulled off the win by the scores of 21-25, 25-16, 25-21, 20-25, 16-14.
"The girls really showed that they have the heart and competitiveness to pull this win off against a solid team," head coach John Turner said.
Malorie Pardo led the way with 19 kills and 25 assists. She also added six aces and 10 digs. Callie McNeil and Brooke DuBois added nine kills apiece. Brooke had four aces and four blocks. Marissa Collins added 13 kills and 28 assists. Kaylie Young had 15 digs along with four aces.
The Lady Oilers then travelled to the Spring Branch Tournament and went 4-1 to capture the consolation championship. The Lady Oilers lost their first round match to Jersey Village, then went on to win four matches against Northbrook, Terry, Seven Lakes, and Dulles. Malorie Pardo was named to the all-tournament team. The Lady Oilers will host the nations largest high school volleyball tournament on Thursday, August 27 thru Saturday, August 29.
The 5A La Porte Lady Bulldogs defeated the Dawson Lady Eagles, but it took all five games in the best-of-three to pull out the win.
Dawson dropped the first game 24-26 and then took the next two games 25-19, 26-24, but La Porte rallied to win the next two game 19-25, 9-15 to win the match.
The loss drops Dawson to 5-5 on the season.
Camryn Kazmierski led Dawson with 10 kils while Grace Underwood added nine. Katie Haynie had 17 assists.
The Lady Eagles competed in the La Porte tournament and opened with a 2-1 win over 5A Dobie 25-13, 18, 25, 25-17 to improve their season mark to 6-5.
Camryn Kazmierski led the team with 11 kills while Katie Haynie had 17 assists.
Dawson faced 5A Mansfield in the second match and came up short 18-25, 16-25 to even their mark at 6-6.
Camryn Kazmierski had six kills with Katie Haynie adding 10 assists and Olivia Underwood adding nine.
Dawson knocked off 5A Brazoswood 3-1 with scores 25-20, 25-29, 23-25, 25-23.
"We played a very well-rounded game, front row and back, and we served tough," head coach Lori McLaughlin said.
Katie Haynie led the team with 13 kills while Olivia Underwood had 16 assists.
Dawson will play in the NIKE Volleyball Tournament in Pearland this weekend.
