PEARLAND — It has been an up-and-down season for the Pearland Oilers prior to district competition, but it appears that head coach Steve Buckelew is seeing some consistency in the win column in early league action.
If the Pearland roundballers hope to make the playoffs this season, they must maintain that focus. So far - so good!
The Oilers got a crucial 35-33 district win last week against Clear Creek.
Cameron Reynolds was the main offensive weapon for the Oilers as he fired in 22 points to lead the way.
Both teams had trouble finding their shooting touch in the first eight minutes as the game was tied 6-6 entering the second period.
Clear Creek finally got untracked to outscore the Oilers 13-5 in the second quarter for a 19-11 lead at intermission.
Pearland came out more aggressive offensively and defensively to take the third period 11-9 to close the game to 28-22 entering the final frame.
The Oilers' defense took control of the game limiting the Wildcats to only five points while the offense generated 13 points to get the close 35-33 district win.
Colby Davis led the Wildcats with 12 points.
The win gives the Oilers a 3-1 district mark while Clear Creek falls to 2-2.
Pearland 52 - Brazoswood 37

The Oilers had one of their fastest starts this season outscoring the visiting Buccaneers 15-3 in the opening first quarter.
But the Bucs came back with an 11-7 second period to close the halftime lead to 22-14.
The third quarter belonged to the Oilers 14-8 giving them a 36-22 advantage entering the final eight minutes of play.
Both teams came out firing with Pearland taking the final frame 16-15 and the game 52-37 to improve to 4-1 in district action.
The Oilers will travel to Alvin on Friday, Jan. 20 to close out the first round of district play and then will travel to Clear Springs on Tuesday, Jan. 24 to begin the second round of league action. All games begin at 7:00 p.m.
