Dawson Volleyball Area Champs

The UIL’s volleyball playoff draw did the District 24-6A champ Clear Springs no favors, pitting the Chargers against the region’s top team and No. 3 state-ranked Pearland Dawson, and while the Lady Eagles prevailed 25-18, 25-21, 25-19 in the Region III-6A-I area-round match, they had to earn every bit of it.

Dawson, which features a roster packed with 14 seniors, improved to 39-4 and faces Fulshear in the regional semifinals later this week.

Dawson never trailed in either the first or third sets, although the Chargers stayed within striking distance throughout both frames.

Leading the first set 15-13, the Lady Eagles reeled off six unanswered points to blow it open, getting kills from four different players during the key run.

Clear Springs fell behind 12-6 to start the third set, but refused to go away, eventually knotting the score at 16-all. Ahead 19-18, Dawson put the match away with a 6-1 run sparked by a Sloane Ranney kill.

The Eagles travel to Fulshear to encounter the Chargers on Thursday, November 6. The Chargers go into the battle with a record of 34-10. Fulshear won 3-0 in their recent playoff contest against Cy-Fair.
