No. 7 state-ranked Lady Oilers crush Shadow Creek 19-1

Pearland continued their dominant journey through District 22-6A competition with a convincing 19-1 thrashing of the Shadow Creek Lady Sharks to improve to 15-0 in league action while improving to 27-4 overall this season.

The No. 7 state-ranked Lady Oilers have clinched the District 22-6A crown and have punched their ticket to the playoffs.

Pearland put a quick end to this game by scoring 10 runs in the first inning and added nine more in the second frame for a commanding 19-0 lead.

Shadow Creek managed one run in the top of the third, but the mercy-rule went into effect, and the Lady Oilers sent the Lady Sharks home with a 19-1 loss.

This was Pearland's 12th straight win with only one more game remaining in the regular season before the playoffs begin.

Pearland only recorded five hits against Shadow Creek but were they ever big hits as Elaina Njus (1-for-3, 1 run, 4 RBIs, HR) and Payton Shugart (1-for-2, 2 runs, 4 RBIs, HR) both blasted grand slam home runs to plate eight runs and Payton Powell (1-for-1, 1 run, 3 RBIs, HR) sent a blast over centerfield for a three-run homer.

Layla Bennet (1-for-2, 2 runs, 2 RBIs) singled to score two runs while Anison Lopez (1-for-2, 3 runs, 1 RBI) scored three times and drove in one run.

Olivia Matejka earned the win for Pearland as she surrendered four hits and one run with five strike outs and one walk.

The Lady O's will host South Houston (2-20, 2-13) in the season finale to wrap up the district title on Friday, April 17 at 7:00 p.m.
