Pearland trounces South Houston 69-0; playoffs next

The Oilers beat South Houston 69-0 to finish the regular season 10-0. Pearland advances to the Class 6A Region III Div. I bi-district round to face the Fort Bend Travis Tigers on Friday, November 14 at 7:00 p.m. at Pearland ISD Stadium.

Pearland wrapped up the 2025 regular season with a perfect 10-0 record and the District 22-6A crown which gave the Oilers completion of their three-step goal for this season.

Now, the real season begin as the Oilers begin their march through the Class 6A Region III Div I playoffs with the goal of capturing to the 6A Region III Div. I title which will complete the second step of the season.

Upon doing that -- the Oilers will move to step three and that will be to win the 6A Div. I state semifinals and then on to the ultimate goal -- to the Class 6A state title game.

So there is a lot of work that still must be done.

The Oilers did close out the regular season with a 69-0 beating of the South Houston Trojans (0-10, 0-8).

While the Trojans celebrated Senior Night -- the Oilers wasted little time in making sure they won the game.

Pearland received the opening kickoff, and it took only two plays for Pearland to score as senior QB Jake Westmoreland crossed the goal line on a 23-yard run with 10:22 left in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead following the PAT by junior kicker Holden Macneish.

The Oiler defense quickly got the ball back following the ensuing kickoff as senior linebacker Anthony DeLeon intercepted a Trojan pass at the South Houston 30-yard line.

The Pearland offense wasted no time as Westmoreland hit sophomore WR Brandon Jones on a beautiful 30-yard scoring strike making the score 14-0 with 8:26 left in the first period.

The two quick scores only signified more to come throughout the rest of the game.

Pearland added three more scores in the first half as senior RB Ja'Maurey Champion scored twice on runs of 1 and 22-yards Westmoreland fired a 26-yard scoring pass to junior TE Michael Shawver giving the Oilers a 42-0 advantage at intermission.

Pearland head coach B.J. Gotte began substituting freely and the Oilers continued to dominate the game.

The second half produced some additional excitement for the Pearland crowd as junior RB Ryan Miller scored on two long distance runs covering 56 and 41 yards that brought the fans to their feet.

Sophomore RB Royce Swan, who has had an excellent season, also produced a scoring run of 17-yards and senior FB Jadon Howard capped off the game with a 1-yard plunge to make the final score 69-0.

Pearland's offense outgained South Houston 461 (330 rushing, 131 passing) to minus-3 total offense.

The Oilers' defense never allowed SoHo to cross the 50 the entire game.

Westmoreland was 6-of-6 passing for 117 yards and two TDs while picking up 23 yards rushing on one carry for a score.

Miller led the ground attack with 118 yards rushing on six totes and two scores. Champion had 57 yards on five carries and two TDs. Jadon Howard had four carries for 75 yards and one score. Royce Swan had three totes for 44 yards and one TD.

WR Jordan "Jet" Hernandez had two catches for 34 yards, Shawver had two grabs for 36 yards and one TD, and Jones had one catch for 30 yards and one score.
