Manvel throttles Houston Madison 63-6


MANVEL — Manvel celebrated homecoming with a 63-6 thrashing of the Houston Madison Marlins in a District 11-5A-II contest.

The game was never in doubt as the Mavs jumped out to a quick 21-0 lead in the first quarter and extended the margin with 21 more points in the second period for a 42-6 halftime lead.

Garrison Johnson put the Mavs on the scoreboard first with a 7-yard scoring run with 8:26 in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead.

Manvel added another touchdown in the period when Kameryn Alexander returned a punt for a 55-yard touchdown at the 5:52 mark for a 14-0 advantage.

Quarterback Josh Coltrin squeezed in one more score in the opening frame when he hit Eric Hebert on a 14-yard scoring strike making the score 21-0.

It was more of the same in the second quarter as Johnson scored his second touchdown of the game on a 1-yard plunge at the 6:42 mark and a 28-0 lead.

Coltrin closed out the Manvel scoring in the first half when he hit Justin Valenzuela on a 68-yard scoring bomb and then hit Jude Mayon on a 30-yard scoring laser with 1:14 left before intermission.

Madison managed to score in the second quarter leaving the score 42-6 at halftime.

Johnson scored his third touchdown of the game with 2:11 left in the third period to bump the Manvel lead to 49-6.

The Mavs got two more scores in the final frame when Xavier Carter picked off a pass and returned it 80-yards for a score and Tucker Yarbrough added a 1-yard scoring run to post the 63-6 final score.

Coltrin was 11-of-15 passing for 207 yards and three touchdowns.

Johnson had eight carries for 56 yards and three scores.

Valenzuela had three catches for 98 yards and one TD. Hebert had five grabs for 60 yards and one TD.

Manvel will travel to Barnett Stadium on Friday, Oct. 12 to face Milby at 7:00 p.m.
