FRIENDSWOOD — The Friendswood Lady Mustangs improved their District 24-4A softball record to 4-0 after disposing of Pearland Dawson and La Marque last week.
Lauren Massar got the win after giving up three earned runs with six strikeouts and walking only one. Massar is 11-7 on the season and 3-0 in district.
Friendswood scored in the first inning for a 1-0 lead and then Dawson picked up three runs in the third inning to forge ahead 3-1. But the lead didn't last long for the Lady Eagles as the flood-gates opened for Friendswood in the fourth frame with five runs and a 6-3 lead. The Lady Mustangs added an insurance run in the fifth to post the 7-3 final score.
Amber Mills, Massar, Hayley-Spicer-Kendall, and Kelsi Acosto led the offense with two hits apiece. Kaitlyn Garivey, Lindsey Davis, and Jackie Dubcak picked up one hit each.
Mills and Massar drove in two runs each.
Friendswood is 13-8 overall and 3-0 in district.
Friendswood 14 - La Marque 1
It took only five innings for Friendswood to dispose of the La Marque Lady Cougars 14-1 to improve their season record to 14-8 and 4-0 in district.
Lauren Massar got the win to improve her pitching record to 12-7 overall and 4-0 in league play.
Lindsey Davis and Massar had two hits each. Caitlyn Garivey had a hit, three RBIs, and scored three times. Rylie Kohls had one hit, an RBI, and crossed the plate twice. Amber Mills added an RBI and score two times. Tori Homer had a hit and an RBI. Kelsi Acosta had a hit and scored a run. Jackie Dubcak stroked a hit and scored twice.
Friendswood will face some stiff district competition this week to test their perfect league record.
The Lady Mustangs hosted Manvel on Tuesday (late) and then will travel to Santa Fe on Friday, March 25 at 6:30 p.m. Friendswood will host Texas City on Tuesday, April 1 at 6:30 p.m.
