Kelly Cross, who was recently drafted by the Minnesota Twins, was named to the Texas Sports Writers Association Class 5 All-State third-team. Cross hit .423 with 17 doubles, seven home runs, 41 RBIs, and 34 runs scored.

Chelsea Bennett, Sara Clements, and Jessica Bowden hit three consecutive singles to load the bases. That's when senior Megan Coronado delivered a clutch single for the fourth straight hit to left to plate Bennett to cut the lead to 2-1. Left fielder Leandra Maly then stepped in to stoke a two-run single to right center for the 3-2 lead.

Those who kew Watson found a friend who was always the same. He possessed that gentleness and even-temperament that made you comfortable being around him. One would have been hard-pressed to hear him ever utter a word against another person.

It was reported in the July 15 issue of the Pearland Reporter News that the Pearland Oilers finished in fourth place at the 7-on-7 state tournament. Actually - the Oilers were in the consolation round while 32 other teams advanced to the championship round from the four-team pool play. While the Oilers advanced to the consolation finals where they lost to Stratford -- they actually finished 34th out of the 64 total teams and not fourth overall.

Seth Dornak held the Falcons to four hits while the Oilers pounded out 10 hits including a HR by Drew Dekerlegand. Pearland advances to the 5A Region III semifinals and will play the winner of the Atascosita/Katy series which is tied 1-1.
SOFTBALL, 5A Region III Semifinals — Pearland vs. Bellaire — Game 2: Bellaire 5 - Pearland Lady Oilers 3. The Lady Oilers held a 2-1 lead for most of the game until Bellaire picked up four runs in the top of the fifth for a 5-2 lead. The no-quit Lady O's scored one run in the bottom of the seventh, but the rally was cut short leaving the teams tied at 1-1 in their best-of-three series. The third and final game will be played on Saturday, May 23 at Manvel HS at 7:30 p.m. with the winner advancing to the 5A Region III finals.
