FRIENDSWOOD Friendswood assistant football coach and assistant varsity baseball coach Jamie Crocker has accepted a new challenge in his coaching career.
Crocker has been with Friendswood for four years after graduating from Stephen F. Austin with a B.S. degree in Biology and Kinesiology. He is married to wife, Melanie, who is a Friendswood HS graduate and played on the state 1994 volleyball team. They have daughter, Elise, age 5.
"There comes a time in every coach's life when some hard decisions are made regarding the future," Crocker said. "I visited with my family, coach Van Meter, coach Don Jones, and coach Charlie Taylor and they all gave me positive feedback regarding this next step for my family and coaching career."
Crocker will become the defensive coordinator for the football team and the new head baseball coach.
"Jamie will be greatly missed," head baseball coach Charlie Taylor said.
Danbury recently won the 2009 Class 2A state baseball championship.
"I am really excited to have the opportunity as I feel my years at Friendswood has prepared me for this next step in my life," Crocker said. "The overall athletic program at Friendswood generates winners and I have been a part of that for the past nine years. I really appreciate all that I have learned from some really great coaches at Friendswood."
Crocker coached the Junior Varsity baseball team where he compiled a 40-7 mark while also assisting Taylor and the varsity squad.
Friendswood won the District 24-4A title the past two years while capturing the 2008 4A Region III championship to advance to a first-ever 4A state baseball tournament appearance. The Mustangs lost to eventual state champion Corpus Christi Calallen in the state semifinals.
