MANVEL — The Manvel Mavericks were hoping to make a run in the post-season, but a tough Houston Reagan team scored three goals for a 3-0 shutout to eliminate the Mavs in the opening round.
Manvel finished with a 6-4-2 district record to advance to the playoffs. Manvel finished third in the district race this season.
The Mavs have five seniors on this year's squad so they should continue to improve for next season.
The players on the 2011 roster include: Imad Ponce, Josue Blanco, Hayden Trask, Luis Rojo, Hector Hernandez, Jose Santiago, Hunter Adams, Travis Hoff, Jose Sosa, Francis Emelogue, Donald Drilling, Anthony Paz, Luis Garza, Juan Henriquez, Jake Jeske, Frank Martinez, Juan Villegas, Anthony Moorehead, Chris Driver, Jonathan Manzano, Jose Medrano, Albert Arenas, Francisco Ramirez, Ismael Zelaya, and Brandon Olson.
"The team did a great job of working hard to make it to the playoffs this year," head coach Robert Partida said. "We are a very young team and only had one returning starter from last year. We have five seniors graduating this year, but the majority of the team will be back next year.
"Both our goalies and most of our defense will be back again next year which will help put the team back on a good path next year."
This is the third time that Manvel has made the post-season and the second straight time under coach Partida.
